Little Light Educare

Inspiring Lifelong Learners Through Play-Based Early Education

We believe every child is capable, curious, and full of potential. We provide a nurturing environment where children feel safe, valued, and inspired to explore the world around them at their own pace.

Our programme is guided by Te Whāriki, New Zealand's early childhood curriculum, and is inspired by the philosophies of Reggio Emilia and Emmi Pikler. We see children as active participants in their own learning, building knowledge through meaningful relationships, play, exploration, and everyday experiences.

Our Philosophy

We believe childhood should be unhurried, joyful, and rich with opportunities for discovery.

Children are respected as competent learners with unique ideas, interests, and strengths. Our role as educators is to listen carefully, observe thoughtfully, and create opportunities that extend each child's learning in meaningful ways.

Learning happens through relationships - with people, with nature, and with the environment. We value collaboration, creativity, and curiosity, supporting children to become confident learners who care for themselves, others, and the world around them.

A cozy indoor space with a black and white patterned rug and a round black rug. There is a light-colored wooden table with a potted plant with green leaves in the foreground. Around it, several light wood chairs are visible. In the background, there are purple pillows arranged along a white wall, a white mirror leaning against the wall, and a coat rack with stuffed animals hanging on it. The wall has decorative words such as "Peace," "Nurture," "Aloha," "wonder," "Provoke," and "Respect" in various fonts and colors. To the right, there's a small wooden table with a glass terrarium containing green plants, a lamp, and some other decorative items. An open door reveals a bright room beyond. The ceiling is decorated with black fabric with white stars, and a green emergency exit sign is visible.

Our Environment

We believe the environment is an important teacher.

Our carefully designed learning spaces invite children to explore, investigate, create, and imagine. Natural materials, open-ended resources, and beautiful, calm spaces encourage children to make choices, solve problems, and develop independence.

Indoor and outdoor environments work together to provide opportunities for movement, creativity, sensory exploration, and connection with nature.

Respect

We honour every child, family, and educator, recognising the unique strengths and perspectives each person brings to our community.

Relationships

Strong, trusting relationships create the foundation for learning. We work in partnership with families, recognising that parents and whānau are children's first and most important teachers.

Curiosity

We encourage children to ask questions, investigate ideas, and embrace the joy of learning through play and exploration.

Belonging

Every child deserves to feel welcomed, accepted, and valued. We celebrate diversity and create an inclusive environment where everyone has a place.

Sustainability

We nurture children's respect for the natural world through everyday experiences that encourage environmental awareness, responsibility, and care.

Our centre is more than a place to learn - it‘s a community where children, families, educators, and the wider neighbourhood grow together.

We believe that meaningful partnerships with whānau strengthen children's learning and wellbeing. We welcome family involvement, celebrate different cultures and traditions, and create opportunities for shared experiences throughout the year.

Children develop a sense of belonging when they know they are connected to people and place. Through local outings, community projects, and everyday interactions, we encourage children to become caring, confident, and active members of their community.

Together, we create a place where children feel loved, respected, inspired, and empowered to thrive - today and into the future.
